You’re Not the Boss of Me: Brat Proofing Your 4 to 12 Year Old Child

I recently had the opportunity to read the book:

When I first heard of this book, I was so excited for the opportunity to read this book. When I received the book and started reading it, it made me think back to all the times I have thought to myself while in a store or just out and about.... "That kid is such a little brat!" Come on what mom hasn't thought that a time or two right?

Well as a Mom I don't want to think my child is a brat, I mean who does? Right??? The truth of the matter is maybe my child is a little bit of a brat and it really opened my eyes.

This book is a great book and I would suggest it to any parent, no matter if you think you have a brat or not. I am using it with my older son who is going on 11 years old and when my little one gets older I will use the ideas she has for him also. The book is very down to earth and very easy for me to read and understand.

I think what stuck out the most, is that most parents want to "fix" our children, but Betsy really points out it's not our children that need to be"fixed" it's us as parents. We need to fix ourselves, to learn how to deal with our children. It made me think really what she was telling me, I always want to try to change my son, but it's me that needs to do the changing. There are so many different topics in the book and I think Betsy has them all covered, all things to do with a younger child to an older child. Over all I give this book A+ and it's a book that I will return to time after time.

I hope you all will take the opportunity to check out this book, it's a great book for any parent to read!

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of HarperCollins and received a copy of You’re Not the Boss of Me to facilitate my review. Mom Central also sent me a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Memorial Day Party Tips and Giveaway!

I can't believe that Memorial Day is already here, it seems like it was just yesterday when it was snowing and I couldn't wait for Spring and now it's almost summer!

Memorial Day is when everyone is usually off from work and remembering all those men and women who died in military service for the United States. We all think about Memorial Day as a start to the picnic season, or as I think of it the start to summer as we know it want be long now till the first day.
To help you out with your Memorial Day party, I have a few tips to share with you.

#1 Finger Foods can be healthier than you think!
How about some great Classic Frito-Lay snacks, such as the Tostitos Scoops? They are made with only three smiple ingredients: corn, healthier oil and salt. Now just add in a great simple dip like this Mediterranean Dip:

1 Cup canned corn, drained and rinsed
1/2 cup roasted red peppers, chopped1 Tablespoon balsamic vinegar
Salt to taste

Mix corn, chopped peppers and balsamic vinegar together in a small bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes or longer. Serve with Tostitos Scoops. (Makes 8 appetizer servings)

The great thing is that is only has 27 calories, 0.3 grams of fat, 5.5 carbohydrates per serving.

#2 Make clean-up easy and Earth Friendly!
Cleaning up after a party is such a hassle, but I am always the first to run out and get all the disposable tableware just so I can throw it away later. Can we say not eco-friendly!!!
This time I have went to google and did a search for "biodegradable utensils" and you will find a great list of companies that provide great products that are biodegradable and around the same price.

#3 Make a beach day, any day!
Just add beach decor to your back yard, blow up beach balls for the kids to play with. You can even use sand toys for centerpieces, even use clean sand buckets to serve the chips.

Now how about a great Memorial Day Giveaway! Win this great picnic basket filled with Frito-Lay snacks!

Amazing Life

It's amazing how life can change in the blink of the eye, sometimes for the worse and sometimes for the better. We never know what is going to happen from day to day. Yes, we might have it planned out, but we don't know if we are going to be in a car wreck, wake up and be sick, or even our kid’s wake up and be sick. I have come to terms that I need to be happy in the moment that I am living and to be content with it. God wants us to be content and happy with what he has given us in life. Yes, I may wish that I had that new shirt or paints, however if I can't afford them at the moment I need to learn to be content with that I do have. To be thankful to God above that I do have pants and shirts to put on, it don't matter if they are not new, just as long as I have them to put on. I think about those less fortunate that don’t have that pair of pants to put on.

I think sometimes in life things happen and we ask why? Why did God just give this problem to me, like I don't have enough on my plate? I mean really? I think we have all been there and done that. I don't think that we would be Christians if we didn't ask our self questions like that. I know I shouldn’t ask that question, but I am human.

The thing that I turn to and always try to remember and tell myself and others around me going through a hard snap is that God will never give us more than we can handle, no matter how bad things might seem in that moment.

I think back to my Aunt Lois, she was my dad's oldest sister. I would stay with her and pay with my cousins, but she would always make sure we had bible devotions each morning. I can always remember this one verse that has stuck with me and I always remember it when things get bad.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Matthew 7:7

The thing about that verse, that might Aunt Lois use to tell me, is that it might not be the moment in which you want it to happen, but he is listening and knows what’s best for us and in time he will show us the way. We must trust in him and follow him to receive his many blessing no matter if they are good, or seem bad as there is a reason for everything.
